Welcome to Canberra Burlesque Academy. We're committed to creating a fun, supportive, and inclusive environment where everyone can explore burlesque, movement, and self-expression. Please take a moment to read our terms and conditions before enrolling.

Refunds & Make-Up Classes

Cooling-Off Period

If you change your mind, you may cancel your enrolment within 7 days of booking for a full refund.

After this period, refunds are only available if Canberra Burlesque Academy cancels or postpones the entire term.

Injury, Illness & Exceptional Circumstances

We understand that unexpected situations can arise. Where injury, illness, or other significant circumstances prevent participation, we may offer a deferral at our discretion. Please contact us as soon as possible to discuss your options.

​

Missed Classes

Students may attend up to three make-up classes within the same term, subject to availability. Make-up classes must be taken during the enrolled term and cannot be carried forward.

Refunds, credits, or extensions are not available for individual missed classes.

​

Private Lessons & Workshops

Private sessions cancelled with at least 48 hours' notice may be rescheduled.

Cancellations made within 48 hours of the booking are not eligible for a refund and rescheduling is at the discretion of Canberra Burlesque Academy.

Enrolments & Payments

Late Enrolments

Students may join a class after the term has commenced, provided places remain available. Full term fees apply until Week 4.

​

Overdue Payments

Fees must be paid by Week 4 unless an alternative arrangement has been agreed upon in advance.

A 25% late fee may be applied to overdue accounts. Unpaid enrolments may be forfeited if a class reaches capacity.

Health & Safety

While Canberra Burlesque Academy takes reasonable steps to provide a safe learning environment, participation in dance and movement activities involves an inherent risk of injury.

By attending classes, students acknowledge that:

• They are medically fit to participate.

• They will work within their own physical limits.

• They will advise instructors of any injuries, medical conditions, or restrictions that may affect participation.

• They accept responsibility for their own health and wellbeing during classes.

Students with medical conditions requiring an action plan should advise us before their first class and complete the Student Information Form.

Appropriate footwear and safe dance practices are required at all times.

Canberra Burlesque Academy is not responsible for personal property that is lost, stolen, or damaged while attending classes or events.

Any accidents or incidents occurring during classes may be documented for safety and insurance purposes.

Respect, Inclusion & Community

Canberra Burlesque Academy is committed to providing a welcoming, inclusive, and respectful environment for all students.

We do not tolerate:

• Bullying or harassment

• Intimidation or threatening behaviour

• Discrimination of any kind

• Conduct that makes others feel unsafe or unwelcome

Students are expected to treat fellow participants, instructors, volunteers, and venue staff with respect at all times.

As burlesque can involve varying levels of costume and undress, students are asked to remain appropriately covered when moving through shared public spaces.

Guests & Spectators

Visitors may only observe a class where all participants have given their consent. If consent is not provided, guests will be asked to wait outside the studio space.

​

Photography & Video

From time to time, Canberra Burlesque Academy may take photographs or videos during classes, rehearsals, and performances for promotional purposes.

Where images are particularly personal or sensitive, we will seek consent before using them publicly.

If you do not wish to appear in promotional material, please email us and we will respect your preference wherever reasonably possible.

Please note that public performances may be photographed or filmed by audience members, media outlets, or venue staff. Canberra Burlesque Academy cannot control the use of images captured by third parties.

Intellectual Property

Choreography

All choreography taught by Canberra Burlesque Academy instructors remains the intellectual property of the choreographer.

Students wishing to perform choreography outside of Academy events should seek permission from the choreographer and provide appropriate credit.

Course Materials

Class notes, resources, videos, and handouts are provided for personal use only and may not be reproduced, distributed, or used for teaching purposes without permission.

Who can attend?

Our classes are open to adults of all genders, backgrounds, body types, and experience levels.

​

I've never danced before. Can I still join?

Absolutely. Many students start with no dance or burlesque experience. Classes are designed to be welcoming to beginners while still offering opportunities for growth and challenge.

​

Do I have to perform?

No. Performing is completely optional.

​

Do I have to remove clothing?

No. Burlesque is about creativity, confidence, and self-expression. You choose your own level of costume and presentation.

Can I just turn up to class?

No. Enrolment is required before attending.

What should I wear?

Comfortable clothing you can move in.

Depending on the class, you may dance barefoot, in flat shoes, or in dance heels. Your instructor will provide guidance where needed.

​

Do I need my own feather fans?

If you have fans, feel free to bring them. We also have a limited number available to borrow, along with practice fans for beginner classes.

​

How do I get there?

The studio is a short walk from the Tuggeranong Bus Interchange and parking is available nearby.

​

Can I book a hens party or performance?

Yes. We offer burlesque workshops, hens experiences, and professional performances.
